- The Black Forest Horse is a rare European draft breed originating from Germany. They are a rather mid-size draft breed, typically maximum 16hh and solidly built but not heavy as another breed like the Ardennes. These horses are most often flaxen liver chestnut but may also be flaxen chestnut and bay. They may have white blazes and stockings but will not have excessive white markings or any on the body outside of legs and face. The horses do not have heavy feathering. Reference pictures are a lighter chestnut stallion called Markward at Marbach Stud. The other reference picture shows a mare with more white markings.
